The short version

• No accounts, no cookies of our own, no analytics and no advertising trackers.
• Your map settings stay in your browser.
• We don't sell or share personal data. Request logs are deleted within 7 days.

What stays in your browser

airy.earth keeps two things in your browser's local storage: your map settings (basemap, globe or flat view, which layers are on, and US or European AQI) and whether you have dismissed the first-visit hint. They never leave your device; clearing this site's data removes them.

The address bar shows the map view and the selected place after the #. Browsers don't send that part of the link to servers, but it is included if you share the link.

Your location

Only when you press "My location" does your browser ask to share your position. It is used in your browser to move the map and is not sent to us. As with any online map, loading the map for that area lets the map tile providers below see which area was loaded.

What reaches our servers

When you pick a place, our server receives its coordinates to look up the forecast and the place name. It passes the coordinates, not your IP address, to Open-Meteo (forecast) and to the OpenStreetMap Foundation's Nominatim (place name), and caches the answers by location.

Hosting and logs

The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes each request (including your IP address, browser and the page or data requested) to deliver and protect the site. Our server's request logs, which can include the coordinates of places you picked, are kept in Cloudflare for up to 7 days to fix problems and are then deleted. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to tell people from automated traffic.

Services your browser contacts directly

These providers receive your IP address and browser details under their own privacy policies:

• Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com): the typefaces.
• OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org): map tiles and labels.
• NASA GIBS (gibs.earthdata.nasa.gov): satellite and night-lights imagery.
• Amazon Web Services (openmeteo.s3.amazonaws.com): Open-Meteo's open wind data.
• Photon by komoot (photon.komoot.io): receives what you type into the search box.

Your choices and rights

Because there are no accounts or profiles, we usually hold nothing that identifies you beyond short-lived logs. You can block location access in your browser and clear this site's stored data at any time.
